The Margaret Spalding Award for Inclusion by an
Individual
For almost thirty years Eric Martin has worked to ensure that the
built environment is accessible to all people. Eric's practice, Eric
Martin and Associates, offers a full range of architectural services
with additional expertise in conservation, heritage & access advice.
Eric has provided advice on over a thousand public buildings
including open spaces, parklands and private residences.
The Canberra Times when speaking of the inspirational Gerrard Gosens
stated that he “…..left us puffing n our comfy seats and forever
in awe of his achievements. So too those of Eric Martin, who for 30
years has worked to see that the built environment is accessible to
all, and who was awarded the inaugural Margaret Spalding Inclusion
Award for an individual. Marg would have been pleased with that
one.” |

Adelaide River HMP and
Heritage Strategy for OAWG
Office of Australian War Graves
(OAWG) operates as the agent of the Commonwealth War Graves
Commission for the commemoration of World War Dead in Australia and
several other countries. As a Commonwealth Agency managing 72
places in Australia, OAWG have commissioned the preparation of a
Heritage Strategy consistent with the requirements of the
Environment Protection and Biodiversity Act 1999. The Strategy is
in draft stage and has been developed in consultation with the
Department of Environment water Heritage and the Arts.
Adelaide River War Cemetery is
managed by OAWG and as it is listed on the Commonwealth Heritage
List, a Heritage Management Plan is being prepared. The cemetery
contains the bodies of 434 Service Personnel who died in the defence
of Northern Australia During World War 2 including the casualties of
the Japanese bombing raids on Darwin and the Northern Territory.
The adjacent Civil cemetery (also managed by OAWG) contains the
graves of 66 civilians including those of 33 Indigenous
Australians. The place is unique in Australia as it is the only
place to contain solely the graves of Service personnel who died as
a result of enemy attacks on Australian soil. |

EMA Award for CIT Student
On November 5th, the
annual CIT awards night was held at the Reid campus. Eric Martin
and Associates sponsored the Building Information Modelling (BIM)
award which was presented by Nicholas Goodwin to Patrick Barling for
excellence in the BIM Essentials class taught at the Bruce campus
this year. The BIM Essentials class teaches students how to apply
Autodesk Revit to the principles of building information modelling |

National MBA Award for Rolfe Audi Showroom
The Rolfe Audi Showroom has extended its award
beyond the ACT and has now taken out the 2009 MBA National Award for
Excellence, Commercial Building $3-6 Million. The Award was
presented to Project Co-ordination. We provided Architectural
services on this project. congratulations to Project Coordination
and the Rolfe Audi Centre team. |

Presentations
Eric has been doing a series of
presentations to members of the Master Builders' Association on
disability access and the implementation of the ACTPLA Access and
Mobility General Code, Adaptable housing and Commercial Buildings.
The presentations have covered the responsibilities to meet disabled
access requirements under the new code for in both commercial and
domestic buildings.
Eric made a presentation at the
CAS Workshop “Fenced and Forgotten”.
Eric was an invited guest to the
CB Alexander Foundation Day and made a presentation on the proposed
stimulus package of works proposed. |
